I’m Luisa, a Brazilian interdisciplinary practitioner based in Seoul, Korea. I’m a community specialist, computational social scientist, calligraphy artist and a writer to the core, on a quest to understand how we deal with the uncertainty of living, and find a place in the world. I have a Bachelor’s in Architecture and Urbanism from UFU, and a Master’s in Culture Technology from KAIST. I am currently making my way into the music industry in Korea, as a PR and branding professional.

I find people infinitely interesting; I am hardly ever tired of talking to others, learning their stories, and their perspective on things. In both my personal and professional life, I abide by the belief that there are no impossible conversations, and I am very fond of the role of mediators, facilitators and brokers. I often describe myself as a bridge-builder, because of my passion for making connections (maybe we have something in common to bond over!).

As a researcher, I am particularly interested in how individual and collective identities shape the production of knowledgescholarly, scientific, lay beliefs, community lore—and communication struggles at contact zones, especially the dynamics of distinctions. Most of my work starts from a social ontology of uncertainty, framing control as underlying all social narratives.

about this website

Writing comes easily to me, and I have been doing it nonstop since I first realised that pen and paper were the right tools to be a productive chatterbox. McLuhan wrote that writers locate the particular in the universal; as a child that struggled to relate to others, reading and writing helped me carve a place to belong. This blog has been with me through much of the journey — sometimes as an archive, sometimes as a bridge, but always as my preferred medium. I am still learning how to communicate but, as my dad’s WhatsApp status message says: “knowing how to communicate ideas is an art” and it requires dedication to the craftsmanship. things we may have in common:

I love going on very long walks, cooking gluten-free dishes, and crafting metaphors to make everything sound bigger-than-life. I am a Believer, born and raised, against all odds, trying to live a life that honours the Grace and Hope I have received. My music taste and my readings (especially my philosophical interests) are the things that often connect me to other people. Feel free to explore my reading list and my dedicated music page! And let me know if we have common interests, or if you found something new or interesting there.

Some of my favourite things: my favourite colours are cherry red and baby blue. I love pistachio, marzipan and mint chocolate desserts, and I’m a sucker for basque cheesecake. My favourite authors are Edgar Allan Poe and Clarice Lispector. My aesthetic sense is a mix of Brett Hellquist, Edward Gorey and Gustave Doré. My favourite book is All That Is Solid Melts Into Air by Marshall Berman, and my favourite poem is Poema em Linha Recta by Fernando Pessoa. I love Doctor Who and Sherlock, and my #1 comfort movie is Spirited Away, followed by Pride and Prejudice and Reservoir Dogs. I have lots of favourite-songs-ever, several of them by Foster the People, Foo Fighters and the Eagles. I am a big K-pop fan, and my favourite boygroups are SHINee, VIXX, Seventeen and NCT, and f(x), T-ARA, Nine Muses and LOONA for girl groups. You can follow me on Twitter and keep up with my updates on life in Korea, research, global chaos, and other thoughts.
