Este estudo parte de reflexões cultivadas ao longo de sete anos de graduação, sobre a real finalidade da Arquitetura. O objetivo, a princípio, era investigar como seu caráter de ciência social aplicada poderia ser trabalhado para servir e oferecer soluções ao problema da crescente divisão da Igreja de Cristo, através do projeto de uma Casa de Oração, unindo o sistema interpretativo de mundo de duas áreas de estudo: a fenomenologia e a teologia. No entanto, ao longo dos dezoito meses de desdobramento do trabalho, conforme a teoria se desenrolou em prática projetual, e novas reflexões surgiram, houve uma mudança do paradigma de orientação e referência. Em vez de uma investigação sobre resultados, com uma ênfase em objetivos, tornou-se uma reflexão sobre processos e propósitos. O presente trabalho reflete sobre a prática cristã e a prática da arquitetura por uma perspectiva histórica e filosófica, procurando identificar, em primeiro lugar, em que medida o trabalho dos que constroem a Igreja se sobrepõe com o trabalho dos que constroem seus templos. Em segundo lugar, como um arquiteto que trabalha nesta sobreposição se constrói como indivíduo.

This study starts from reflections cultivated over seven years of graduation, about the real purpose of Architecture. The goal, at first, was to investigate how its Applied Social Science aspects could be worked to offer solutions to the problem of the ever-growing division of the Church of Christ, through the design of a House of Prayer, and bringing together the interpretative system of two fields of study: phenomenology and theology. However, throughout the eighteen months during which the project unfolded, as theory developed into practice, and new reflections surfaced, there was a shift of paradigms and references. What had started as an investigation focused on results, emphasising ends, became a reflection of processes and purposes. This current work reflects on the Christian practise, and the Architectural practise, from historical and philosophical perspectives, seeking to identify, firstly, to what extent the work of those building the Church overlaps with the work of those building its temples. Secondly, how an architect working within this overlap builds their own self.
