Nae-eung-bong: Augmented K-pop Lightstick (2022)

with Kyungjin Seo and Youngik Lee (Bongbong Team)

GCT 501 Introduction to Culture Technology, Fall 2022, Final Project

Presented on 13 Dec 2022. Combining the skills and expertise of the three group members, we chose FANDOM culture, TUI (Tangible User Interfaces) as tech, and the context of the GAME INDUSTRY to propose an augmented K-pop fandom experience through the lightstick. I was individually in charge of providing the fandom conceptual background, helping write scenarios and designing the presentation and poster.

EXCERPT FROM THE FINAL REPORT

(…) “Even in the current state of limited interactivity and limited functions of the lightstick, their high attributed value is evidence of fans’ meaning-making power. This is expressed, for instance, by the sound and emotion-reactive lights, as well as the participatory activities proposed through the fan platform — conceived to enable fans to create their own events, and potentially employ their lightsticks to strengthen the ties of their local fan communities.
